Good morning, Fort Greene and Clinton Hill.

Yesterday’s sweltering temperatures continue today, with the National Weather Service’s heat advisory  lasting until midnight. Stay cool and hydrated today while you’re out in the neighborhood and stop by a community cooling center if you’re feeling overheated.

One day you’re talking to political candidates about issues in the community; the next, reporting on a local arts fair. Sound fun? The Nabe is offering local teenagers a chance to hone their writing skills and learn about reporting in a three-day summer program. Come to a free teen journalism workshop on July 23, 24 and 25. The workshop will take place each day from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Bishop Loughlin Memorial High School. Email us at TheNabe@TheNabe.me with your name, age, neighborhood and the school you attend, and why you’re interested in community journalism.

A Fort Greene man walking home from a friend’s home in Bedford-Stuyvesant was attacked with a hammer last week, NBC New York reported. Musician Dru Barnes lost an eye in the attack; friends have set up a Facebook page to help pay for his surgeries.
  • There will be a candidates’s forum for the 35th District City Council race on Thursday evening, reported Streets Blog. The event will be hosted by Transportation Alternatives, a New York City cyclist and pedestrian advocacy group, at 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the Irondale Center at 85 South Oxford Street. What questions would you like to ask the candidates, locals?
  • How about a movie night? On Thursday at 8 p.m., the Trilok Fusion Center for the Arts is having a roof-top screening of “Newlyweds,” which premiered earlier this summer at BAMcinemaFest and will be released in theaters this September, reported Bold as Love Magazine.
