Good morning, Fort Greene and Clinton Hill.

The heat of summer returns today with temperatures on the high 80s, according to the National Weather Service. At least we don’t have to worry about inclement skies until later this week, locals. If you’re out enjoying some sun, don’t forget to share your photos in our Flick group.

Here’s more local news to start your day:

  • If you still haven’t made it out to meet the candidates for the 35th City Council District seat, you’ll have your chance at a debate tomorrow night. The discussion, sponsored by Fulton Area Coming Together (FACT), takes place from 7 to 9:30 p.m. at St. John Fire Baptized Holiness Church located at 1016 Fulton Street. If that date doesn’t work, FACT will hold a 35th City Council District candidate forum at 1 p.m. on Aug. 30. The forum, which is expected to focus on senior citizen issues, happens at 257 Greene Avenue. Redistricting occurred at the city level earlier this year, so if you’re not sure which district you’re in or which polling site to use, click here to find out.
  • Dominique Bryant, the Myrtle Avenue Farm Stand Outreach Coordinator, was highlighted by the Brooklyn Community Foundation for her hard work to bring fresh fruit and vegetables from Nolasco Farm in New Jersey to the nabe, Myrtle Minutes reported. To see the growing community in action, head to Myrtle Avenue Revitalization Project‘s Myrtle Avenue Farm Stand tomorrow from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the corner of Myrtle and North Portland Avenues.
  • We’ve only got a few days until creative writers take the stage at the New York Writers Coalition‘s 9th annual Fort Greene Park Summer Literary Festival. The free festival will feature work from 6 to 18 year old, as well as faculty writers from The Writers Foundry at St. Joseph’s College and other Brooklyn-based poets between 2 and 5 p.m. on Aug. 24. For a preview of the fun, don’t miss our post on the festival, including audio clips of a few of the writers reading their work.
