Tell Us About The People & Places That Make You Love Ditmas Park
After the armed robberies at Ox Cart Tavern, Mimi’s Hummus, and a Church Avenue deli, the fire at 773 Lounge, and the home invasion on Rugby Road, many of you have written to say how overwhelmed you feel. And we understand. Terrible things have happened to good people – to people and places that make us want to be a part of this community.
Big, important questions are being asked: How can we make our neighborhood safer? What are the people in charge doing to help?
These questions are complex – and we certainly don’t have all the answers. But, as we’ve spoken to the business owners, to those of you we’ve seen in restaurants and bars and walking down the street, to so many of you who have sent us incredibly thoughtful emails about the recent events, we have been inspired by what has been repeated: This is our community. And we love it. And we want to stay here.
We want to continue to address all of the very real and very serious issues that have been raised: questions about police presence, about guns, about crime, and more. But we also want to highlight the people and places that make our neighborhood so incredible.
In these coming days, we’d love it if you would tell us about (and send photos of) the people and places you love in our neighborhood. We can include it on the site, and we’d also love to reach out and write more about them. Let’s remember all the people who are doing so much for our community – the people who are picking up trash, who are volunteering at neighborhood schools, who are helping care for abandoned animals, and so much more. We’d like to hear about anyone, or anyplace, in the community that you’ve been inspired by – maybe it’s someone who has helped you while you were sick, a spot you always go to after a hard day at work, or a neighbor who never fails to say hi to everyone.
You’re welcome to comment below or email us at editor@ditmasparkcorner.com. We’re excited to hear about all these amazing people and places!
