T.B. Ackerson Wine Merchants Sold, Is Now Kings County Wines

Big changes have come to T.B. Ackerson Wine Merchants (1205 Cortelyou Road between Westminster and Argyle Roads).

The shop’s previous owner, Jane Rennert, just sold it to Adam Robertson, of Gowanus, and neighbor Erika Lesser, and today it became Kings County Wines — the name that Adam and Erika wanted for the store they hoped to open at 1414 Cortelyou Road last year. Ultimately, they weren’t able to open that wine store because their liquor license was blocked in court.

Adam told us today that they just closed the deal on the shop at 2pm yesterday.

“We’re going to have a lot more wine to choose from going forward, and we’re going to keep our spirits selection– and add to it,” said Adam, who previously owned Total Wine Bar in Park Slope.

The new owner said he’s open to suggestions from neighbors for his shop, which he said will have “a ton more selection than there has been in the past.”

“We’ll have a lot of good low price point stuff — people who are accustomed to getting bargains here will still get bargains,” said Adam, who noted they’ll continue to honor the T.B. Ackerson stamp cards. “And we’ll have a lot more exotic, interesting stuff.”

As for why they wanted to name the store Kings County Wines (a new awning with the name will soon be going up), Adam said they “want to be very all-purpose and have a broad appeal.”

Eventually, he said, they’d like to have a clientele that includes people outside of the neighborhood.

“We’ll do deliveries and Internet sales,” Adam told us.

Other changes coming to the store include the departure of T.B. Ackerson’s Cole, who will be bidding adieu to the shop after helping out the new owners for about a week.

The hours will remain the same (12pm-9pm), as will the shop’s phone number, which is (718) 826-6600.
