Looking for a new place to satisfy your sweet tooth? La Damas’s Cookies has opened at 507 Coney Island Avenue at the corner of Turner Place. The cute little shop opened last week and is owned by the same people behind Tacos El Catrin on East 7th Street.

We stopped by earlier this week to try out some of their sweets, which are all made in house. The display is full of colorfully decorated sugar cookies and other treats. They are geared up for Halloween already, so the cookies were decorated as ghosts, pumpkins, spiders and more.

Although the shop is named for its cookies, the stand out for us was the cupcakes. They come in a variety of sizes — depending on how much of a sweet tooth you have. Most of the cupcakes were also Halloween themed, and we particularly enjoyed the Day of the Dead decorations. The cupcake itself was topped with a heaping helping of sugary frosting, so if you aren’t a big frosting fan this isn’t for you, and the cake was wonderfully moist and rich.

All of the treats are under $4 and they also offer a variety of coffee drinks, so it’s great for an afternoon pick-me-up. We are looking forward to coming back to try the apple and banana tarts and some of the traditional Mexican treats they serve.

La Damas’s Cookies is located at 507 Coney Island Avenue at the corner of Turner Place and is open from 6am-5pm Monday through Friday and 7:30am-4:30pm on Saturdays and Sundays.
