A sticky-fingered thief was caught red-handed by a surveillance camera sneaking a wallet out of a woman’s bag last month at a sushi restaurant on Kings Highway.

Cops say the suspect entered the Sushi Tokyo restaurant, at the corner of Kings Highway and East 7th Street, in the afternoon on Friday, October 23. Surveillance video provided by the NYPD shows the suspect, a white man wearing a black baseball cap and carrying a backpack, standing near the bathroom beside a coat and bag. He slips his hand into the bag and pulls out a wallet before walking out of view.

Later video shows the face of the suspect, with the same hat and backpack, exiting out onto the street and walking down the sidewalk.

The wallet belonged to a 51-year-old woman and contained $30 in cash and a credit card, police say.

Anyone with information is asked to call the NYPD’s Crime Stoppers hotline at 800-577-TIPS. The public can also submit their tips by logging onto the Crime Stoppers website or by texting their tips to 274637 (CRIMES) and then entering TIP577.
