Great news: Sunset Park Library (5108 Fourth Avenue, at 51st Street) is one of the 10 finalists for the third annual NYC Neighborhood Library Awards!

The annual awards are often dubbed the “Oscars of libraries” and has steadily grown in popularity as more library branches have been nominated and won financial prizes for their programs — and as more library patrons have found out and rallied around their neighborhood library.

“I’m from Dominican Republic and moved in New York in 2008. One of the best places for me and my brother to get resources, as new residents and immigrants, was the Sunset Park Library,” wrote Daniela, a student, immigrant, and neighborhood resident in her testimonial to the judges.

“Here we attended ESL classes, we used to come for computer classes and to use the internet to communicate with the rest of our family in DR,” she explained. “I thank God because my life can be enriched by having more learning experiences with all the books and services at the Sunset Park Library.”

Sunset Park Library joins two other Brooklyn libraries as finalists: the Dyker Library in Dyker Heights, and Kings Bay Library in Sheepshead Bay.

Each year, five branches win $20,000 each for programming, with the remaining five finalists receiving $10,000 each. Awards are funded through the Stavros Niarchos Foundation and the Charles H. Revson Foundation.

Winners will be announced in June.
