Sunday At The Brooklyn Museum: CM Laurie Cumbo’s State Of The District Address And A Washington Avenue Crawl
Here’s another State of the District address to come out of winter hibernation for: Councilmember Laurie Cumbo’s this Sunday, March 1 from 3-5pm at the Brooklyn Museum’s Cantor Auditorium.
This is her first annual SOTD address about her “progress and vision for the 35th Council District.” Besides being an opportunity to hear what’s on her agenda for the coming year, the event will also serve to acknowledge the work of four leaders in the Brooklyn arts community:
- Ella Weiss, the Brooklyn Arts Council
- Karen Brooks Hopkins, Brooklyn Academy of Music
- Arnold Lehman, Brooklyn Museum
- Kwayera Archer-Cunningham, the Ifetayo Cultural Arts Academy
Hopkins and Lehman are retiring later this year, and two other recent retirees — NYPD Chief Gerald Nelson and NYPD Assistant Chief Owen J. Monaghan — will also be honored at the event.
But that’s not all. Cumbo’s SOTD will also serve as the opening act of sorts — part one of larger festivities that continues with a Washington Avenue Crawl featuring merchants from the Washington Avenue Prospect Heights Merchants Association, which spans between Eastern Parkway and Dean Street.
The SOTD is open to the public, but seating is limited, so RSVP’s are required via phone to 718-260-9191.
