SummerStage Returns to Coney Island Tomorrow Night, Starts Summer of Free Music Events

CONEY ISLAND – Coney Island is a must stop destination for Brooklynites, New Yorkers and tourists alike during the summer, boasting everything from boardwalk games and swimming to events ranging from the wild Mermaid Parade to Nathan’s Famous Hot Dog Eating Contest.

Now, Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adams and Councilmember Mark Treyger (D-47) have announced the return of another great summer tradition: free concerts!

The SummerStage music event series, sponsored by the City Parks Foundation, will bring a series of concerts to the Ford Amphitheatre on the Coney Island Boardwalk, ranging from rap to salsa to dancehall and back again.

Kicking off the summer series tomorrow night, Wednesday, June 20, will be legendary Brooklyn-born MC Big Daddy Kane, celebrating the 30-year anniversary of his debut.

“SummerStage gives local residents access to fun, free recreational activities that celebrate the music, culture and heritage that makes our community, our borough, and our city so unique,” said Councilmember Treyger.

We invite people from Brooklyn and beyond to enjoy these great performances in this premier destination for summer recreation.”

Another series of SummerStage events in Brooklyn will take place at Brooklyn Bridge Park in DUMBO and at Betsy Head Park in Brownsville.

Coney Island is set to start the summer season in full with fireworks on Friday, June 29, visible from the newly-protected wooden slats of the famed Reigelmann Boardwalk.
