Summer/Fall Spots Still Open At Greenwood Heights Playgroup

When Mom and Dad have to go to work, it can be an extraordinarily daunting task to find the perfect playspace for our youngest South Slopers.

Thankfully, two of the neighborhood’s warmest childcare providers have spots open in both their summer and fall playgroup programs.

We sat down with Maya Marchese-Reilly and Patty Cavallo, founders of Greenwood Heights Playgroup, as they rolled out the details for their first annual summer camp, and the upcoming fall semester.

SSN: Tell us about Greenwood Heights Playgroup.

GHPG: We are a small home based drop off playgroup with a focus on learning through play. We believe children learn and thrive during early developmental years in a play based environment. We are located in a private home on 22nd St between 6th and 5th Ave.

Who are the teachers?

Maya Marchese-Reilly (left) is a Brooklyn native, and lives in Carroll Gardens. She has a degree in Early Childhood Education that she earned while raising her children Makayla, Kayden and Kieran.

Patty Cavallo (Right) has lived in South Slope/Greenwood Heights for 14 years. She has 3 beautiful children Sienna, Jaiden and Kahealani. Her youngest daughter Kahealani joins the playgroup everyday.

Give us the lowdown on summer camp! We have designed a very unique and cool mini summer camp for kids ages 2-4. Our mini camp will run for 3 full days per week from 9am-2pm on Tuesdays- Thursdays. We have a Hawaiian Beach Theme week which runs July 9th – 11th. Nature Week runs July 30th- August 1st, and Under the Sea runs from August 20th -22nd. Our activities will be based around the theme for that week and will include but are not limited to sprinkler and water table time, picnic lunches, walks to the park, cooking and music.

What can parents look for in your fall program?

Our fall program will include weekly music from City Stomp’s very own Miss Tami! Our local playground will finally be opened and ready for play so we are excited to add weekly trips to the playground. Our daily schedule will always include circle time, yoga, multicultural music, reading, art, and lots of nature exploration in our large yard (shown above) and throughout the neighborhood. We provide a healthy snack daily and parents are asked to pack a lunch. We will continue to provide a very comforting, safe and loving environment for our kids to grow in.

What are your prices for summer and fall? Our summer camp is $150 per week. For playgroup we charge a $50 registration fee and $9 per hour. We require a minimum commitment of 9 hours per week.

How many spots do you currently have available? Summer camp currently has 10 spots available throughout the 3 weeks and we have 4 spots left for the fall.
