Summer 2016: Catch A Wave With 3 NYC Surf Camps
Think you have to pack up and head out of town for surfing lessons? Think again! Rockaway Beach is home to three surf camps that will teach your city kids everything they need to know about catching those sweet Atlantic Ocean waves.
Skudin Surf Kids Surf Camp

Tuition: $405 per week ($445 after April 1). $105 for day camp.
First up is Skudin Surf Camps – geared toward kids ages 5 to 15. Supervised by NSSIA-certified instructors, campers will be sorted into groups based on age and experience level – colored rash guards make it easy to tell the groups apart – and then spend the day learning all about surf “safety, skills, balance, education, recreation, etiquette, and fun.” All equipment is provided, but note that campers should bring towels, sunscreen, lunch, and water. Camp runs from 9 am to 1 pm.
Locals Kids Surf Camp

Tuition: $420 per week ($450 after April 1). Day rates also available.
Also running from 9 am to 1 pm are the Locals Surf Camps – geared toward children ages 5 and up. With a 3:1 student/instructor ratio, campers of all experience levels will spend their week learning basic surf skills and etiquette while also giving more experienced surfers an opportunity to improve on their skills. Boards, rash guards/wetsuit top, and refreshments are all included.
New York Surf School

Tuition: $399 per week. $259 for half-week camp. $100 for day camp.
You’ve got lots of options at New York Surf School – with daily, weekly, and even half-week sessions available for their summer kid surf camps. All ages and experience levels are welcome, and all equipment is provided. Camps run weekdays from 9 am to 1 pm.
