Sumi Sushi Coming To Flatbush Avenue

A new sushi place is coming to Flatbush Avenue, joining a stretch that’s got a few already.

Construction has been underway at 287 Flatbush Avenue, between St Marks and Prospect, where Sumi Sushi will replace the former Udjat Salon. According to permits with the Department of Buildings, they’re redoing the interior to change it into a restaurant, and currently there’s a beer and wine liquor license pending with the state, which a post earlier this year on Brooklonian notes was supported by Community Board 8.

This new spot will join a few other sushi places nearby on Flatbush Avenue, including Taro just across Flatbush Avenue, Geido up the street, and Koto nearby on 6th Avenue, among may others as you head south into Park Slope. Plus, while not strictly sushi, the highly regarded Japanese restaurant Wasan will be opening a location on Bergen Street soon. In any event, those spots on Flatbush can certainly get crowded, so maybe Sumi can help fill some need?

Seeing as we do have many good, if not great, places to get sushi in the neighborhood, we’d love to hear if you’ve got a favorite — take the poll, and share your thoughts in the comments below.
