Subway Service Changes For New Year’s Eve & New Year’s Day

There are a few changes to local subway lines to note for New Year’s Eve and Day this today and Wednesday:

New Year’s Eve, Tuesday, December 31

If you’re heading into Times Square or may be around the Barclays Center on New Year’s Eve (there’s a Billy Joel concert there), the MTA recommends you put money on your MetroCard in advance to avoid lines.

At Times Square, they advise you avoid the 42 St-Times Square subway complex, since you may not be allowed to exit onto the street.

The northbound 1 train platform at 50 St and both north- and southbound N/Q/R platforms at 49 St will be closed from 7pm until after midnight. Riders are urged to exit at stations at 57 St or 59 St- Columbus Circle instead and walk to Times Square.

Following the celebration, trains on lines in and around Times Square will run every 8 to 12 minutes until approximately 3am. The 42nd Street shuttle will operate all night.

New Year’s Day, Wednesday, January 1

New York City subways and buses and the Staten Island railway will operate on a Sunday schedule (which means no B train), with longer waits on some bus routes.

These schedules sometimes change, so check mta.info for the latest information.
