Stuart Wellington, co-owner of the much-awaited Hinterlands bar — set to open on Church Avenue this summer — moonlights as a co-host of The Flop House, we’ve recently learned.

The critically-acclaimed comedy podcast, which has a cultish following, stars three friends bantering about movies we love to hate, and is best known for its witty one-liners, epic tangents, and intimate rapport, as reported by The Daily Beast.

And despite his modesty (a self-described “outsider from the comedy world,”) Wellington holds his own among his co-hosts, who are both Emmy-winning comedy writers.

“Bartending and podcasting are both social activities that involve a lot of talking a listening,” said Wellington.

Hinterlands already has a creative flair; Wellington launched an art contest in November 2015 to reimagine the Choking Victim poster, a requirement for display on all New York City bars and restaurants.

This ingenuity might set the tone for the bar’s aesthetic, along with Wellhouse’s humor, as evidenced by this excerpt from his bio:

It turns out that Stuart is the last remaining member of an ancient royal family of some bullshit fantasy world. Only he can set right what is wrong, and cast the Dark One back into the Abyss. Instead, he is going to spend his time watching shitty movies and eating hamburgers.

Hinterlands passed its last round of inspections on May 4 and is on track to open this summer, according to the bar’s Twitter account. Congrats, Hinterland!

And while you wait patiently for the grand opening, check out Wellington’s hilarious powerpoint performance, “You’ve Hit Jaws!”
