Storefront Work on Newkirk

In case you, like neighbor Alice, have been wondering what’s going on above several storefronts on Newkirk Ave between East 16th and East 17th Streets, here’s the deal. It seems C-Town, which owns that row of buildings as well, is updating them, hoping to make a uniform look for all the shops.

One of the stores included in the update, and possibly the reason for the update in the first place, is the space at 1610 Newkirk that suffered damage after a fire one night in May, which also impacted the nail salon next door.

C-Town did a nice job on the supermarket renovation (if you remember what it used to look like inside and out, I think you’ll agree), so we’re looking forward to this update, and we hope it means a new beginning for that store at 1610. If anyone hears about a new tenant there, let us know.
