The April 15 deadline to file your income taxes is coming up fast, and if you need help — and are within an income bracket that qualifies you for assistance — the Central Library at 10 Grand Army Plaza has some options.

The NYC Deptartment of Consumer Affairs, Office of Financial Empowerment Tax Assistance is offering free tax prep assistance at the library through April 15 for individuals who earned less than $60,000 last year. You must have a valid email address and basic computer skills, and you have to bring your tax documents (see a list here) to Room 216 during one of the following times:

  • Mondays, 10:30am-8pm (April 6 and April 13 starts at 1:30pm)
  • Wednesdays, 1:30-8pm
  • Thursdays, 9:30am-5pm
  • Sundays, 1-4:30pm (except 4/5)

The Central Library is also offering free AARP tax preparation for low and middle income taxpayers, particularly those aged 60 or older, on a first-come, first-served basis, in the 3rd floor Trustees Room on Mondays from 11am-3pm through April 13. See the list of documents you may need to bring here, and note that to file taxes electronically on a married-filing-joint tax return, both spouses must be present to sign the required forms.
