Starting This Weekend, Kids Can Tryout for Huskies Baseball
For a quick minute, let’s turn our thoughts to spring and baseball. The SFX Huskies will be holding tryouts this weekend and next in Park Slope. For future Major Leaguers, this is the chance to secure a spot on a competitive baseball team and travel around the tri-state area playing baseball. The SFX House League early registration is open and teams will be put together early next year.
My middle son plays second base for the SFX Huskies 11. He started playing baseball with the SFX Youth League in Prospect Park at age 4 where he loved meeting up with this teammates — who live all over Brooklyn — an hour before weekend double headers to bond and practice.
The parents of Huskies appreciate that the coaches taught their boys to win and lose with dignity and respect their competition. My son’s age 10 team competed this past spring in the Parade Ground League against historically what are considered the toughest teams in Brooklyn baseball. Their team had an outstanding season and while they finished a few wins short of winning their division, they won the Team Sportsmanship Award. When the award was announced, one of our mothers emailed the team:
“What a huge honor!! So very well-deserved by our very classy coaches, who model sterling sports ethics and behaviors, and our boys, who treat their teammates and opponents with fairness and respect. I am so proud of our Huskies 10 – and so pleased that the PGL recognizes this critically important piece of the game.”
We hope to see baseball players interested in working hard to improve their skills while continuing the good name for SHX Huskies at tryouts.
