St. Joseph’s Bears Senior David Louison Receives National Honor
Congratulations are in order for David Louison, a St. Joseph’s College senior who was selected as among the top five student-athletes across over 400 Division III men’s basketball schools nationally — the first St. Joseph’s Brooklyn Campus student-athlete to receive the honor.
Specifically, Louison was named to the 2014-15 Capital One Academic All-America® Division III Men’s Basketball First Team.
A Brooklyn native majoring in criminal justice, Louison’s 3.93 GPA ensured his eligibility for the recognition — which requires a minimum 3.3 GPA — and his achievements as a St. Joseph’s Bears member, noted St. Joseph’s Head Coach Joseph Cocozello, had already led him to join “the exclusive 1,500-point, 1,000-rebound club this season
[by] racking up over his four-year career 1,679 points, 1,181 rebounds and 59 double-doubles, the active Division III leader in the last two categories.”“Dave’s statistics speak for themselves,” said Cocozello. “More important is the pride he takes in his academics as a student-athlete. He is a model citizen and ambassador for the school. We are blessed and fortunate to have had him for the past four years.”
For his part, Louison described the honor as “pretty humbling.”
“I’ve been speechless since I was first notified that I was selected for such a high honor,” he said. “I’m extremely grateful and I’m proud to be in this position to have this under my belt as a student-athlete.”
In addition, Louison was named the Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Player of the Year and is a four-time All-HVIAC selection as well as a two-time United States Collegiate Athletic Association First Team All-American.
Louison has also worked in the U.S. Attorney’s Office as a student clerk since June 2012 and, upon graduation this May, plans to become a paralegal, attend law school and continue to pursue a career as a lawyer.
