South Slope Weekend Events Spotlight: June 12-15


What a great weekend to be in the Slope! With everything from Father’s Day crafts and street fairs, to Celebrate Brooklyn and twilight parades, you won’t have to go far for fun! Check out some of our favorite events from around the neighborhood:

Celebrate Ornette: The Music Of Ornette Coleman Featuring Denardo Coleman Vibe
When: Thursday, June 12, 7pm
Where: Prospect Park Bandshell, 9th Street and Prospect Park West
What: Celebrate Brooklyn and the Blue Note Jazz Festival are bringing the music of jazz legend Ornette Coleman center stage this week, with the musician’s son, drummer Denardo Coleman headlining a fantastic lineup. For the complete list of acts, visit BRICartsmedia.org.

Nature On The Go
When: Friday, June 13, 2-3pm
Where: Audubon Center, Prospect Park
What: Every Thursday and Friday, families can take a walk with members of the Prospect Park Alliance to learn about the park’s flora and fauna. No reservations required, just meet at the Audubon Center.
How much: Free.

Father’s Day Crafts
When: Friday, June 13, 4-5pm
Where: Park Slope Library, 431 6th Avenue at 9th Street
What: Say I love you to Dad with a special handmade craft. Park Slope Library will have all the materials, so come on down and get creative.
How much: Free.

Brooklyn Pride Festival
When: Saturday, June 14, 11am-5pm
Where: 5th Avenue, between 3rd and 9th Streets
What: It’s going to be a day filled with food, music, bounce houses, and more on 5th Avenue, as Brooklyn shows its love for the city’s LGBT community.
How much: Free.

History In Your Hands: Flax To Linen
When: Saturdays and Sundays in June, 2-4pm
Where: Lefferts Historic House, Prospect Park
What: Did you know that Lefferts House has a flax crop? This month, the whole family is invited to come and give the tools used to process flax fibers into linen cloth. As an added bonus, you can dress up in some reproduction clothing for a photo-op in the farm’s wagon.
How much: $3 suggested donation

Ezra Jack Keats Family Concert: Ozomatli’s Ozokidz
When: Saturday, June 14, 4pm
Where: Prospect Park Bandshell, 9th Street and Prospect Park West
What: Ozomatli is rocking the bandshell this weekend, as Brooklyn celebrates the work of Ezra Jack Keats with stories, music, food, and “the great Park Slope tradition of on-site stroller parking.”
How much: $3 suggested donation.

Brooklyn Pride Twilight Parade
When: Saturday, June 14, 7:30pm
Where: 5th Avenue and Lincoln Place to 5th Avenue and 9th Street
What: There’s no better way to cap off Pride Week than with a parade. This year’s Grand Marshals include Mayor Bill de Blasio, Public Advocate Letitia James, Brooklyn Borough President Eric L. Adams, and Council Member Carlos Menchaca.
How much: Free.

Food Truck Rally
When: Sunday, June 15, 11am-5pm
Where: Grand Army Plaza
What: Have the munchies? Stop by Prospect Park on Sunday — the food trucks are back!

Seventh Heaven Street Fair
When: Sunday, June 15, 12pm to 6pm
Where: Seventh Avenue, between Flatbush and 16th Street
What: If you didn’t get your street fair fill on Saturday, head up on the 7th Avenue for the 40th Annual Seventh Heaven Street, taking place on Father’s Day Sunday from Flatbush to 16th Street. Look for local merchants, food, artisans, and more.
