Looking for something to do on this first weekend of 2015? With everything from music and Coffee Bark, to a meet-and-greet with Peep, you won’t have to go far for fun. Here are some of our favorite events from around the neighborhood through Sunday:

Percy Jones And MJ-12
When: Friday, January 2, 8pm
Where: Barbes, 376 9th Street near 6th Avenue
What: Shake things up for the new year with the improvisational stylings of Percy Jones and MJ-12, which Barbes says “takes various starting points of jazz/rock fusion, psychedelia and ambient noise and develops them in unpredictable directions.”
How much: $10 (strongly) suggested donation.

Music With Mary
When: Friday, January 2 9pm-2am
Where: Mary’s Bar, 708 5th Avenue and 22nd Street
What: Where better to hang your hat on a cold January night than the cozy confines of Mary’s Bar? Tillery James will be on hand until 2am spinning tunes.
How much: Free.

Coffee Bark
When: Saturday, January 3, 7am-9am
Where: Meadow beside the Picnic House in Prospect Park (Enter at PPW and 3rd Street)
What: It’s the first Saturday of the month, which can only mean one thing…Coffee Bark with FIDO. There will be treats for dogs (and their owners), as well as information on off-leash activities.
How much: Free.

Introduction To Birdwatching
When: Saturday, January 3, 11am
Where: Audubon Center, Prospect Park
What: Take a tour from the Brooklyn Bird Club to learn about the 250 species of birds that call Prospect Park home.
How much: Free.

Nature Playtime: Zoo
When: Sunday, January 4, 10:30am-12:30pm
Where: Prospect Park Zoo
What: The Prospect Park Alliance, Prospect Park Zoo, and Tinkergarten are teaming up (with a little help from the Disney Conservation Fund) to bring families creative play opportunities in the park’s natural areas. Every Sunday through April, those visiting the Prospect Park Zoo will be able to take part in Nature Playtime! in the native plant garden. Look for nature-inspired art, insect observation, playing with snow, scavenger hunts, and more. Want to try some Nature Playtime activities on your own? Download a free activity card here. A new card will be added to the website each month through April.

Figure 8 Play-Date With Peep
When: Sunday, January 4, 2-4pm
Where: LeFrak Center at Lakeside, Prospect Park
What: Hit the ice with PBS character Peep (Peep and the Big Wide World) this Sunday at Lakeside. In addition to skating, kids can look forward to fun family activities like arts and crafts.
How much: $8 admission/$6 skate rental

Sci-Fi Sunday
When: Sunday, January 4, 8pm & 10pm
Where: Supercollider, 609 4th Avenue, between 17th and 18th Streets
What: If you’re a sci-fi fan, the only place you need to be on Sunday is Supercollider, where they’ll be screening classic favorites at 8pm and 10pm.
How much: Free.
