South Slope Weekday Events Spotlight: September 14-16

Don’t wait until the weekend to get out and about in the neighborhood! With everything from pan-Latin rhythm and comedy, to crafts and Lakeside KIDtivities, folks in the Slope won’t have to go far for fun. Below are some of our favorite events from around the area.

Dirty Hoe Monday Open Mic Night
When: Monday, September 14, 6:30pm
Where: Freddy’s, 627 5th Avenue, between 17th and 18th Streets
What: Looking for a fantastic spot to test out your new material? Make your way to Freddy’s for their weekly open mic comedy night. Register early by emailing dirtyhoecomedy@gmail.com. Walk-ins are also welcome on a first-come, first-served basis. Sign-up begins at 6pm, and the first comic hits the stage at 6:30pm.
How much: No cover, but comics must purchase at least one item from the bar for a 7-minute set.

Karina Colis & Friends
When: Tuesday, September 15, 9pm
Where: Barbes, 376 9th Street near 6th Avenue
What: Celebrate plowing through the first two workdays this week with a few, “original compositions steeped in jazz and pan-Latin rhythms,” as Karina Colis & Friends take the Barbes stage.
How much: $10 (strongly) suggested donation.

KIDtivity
When: Wednesday, September 16, 11am-6pm
Where: LeFrak Center, Lakeside
What: Enjoy the cooler weather with your littles at Lakeside on Wednesday, with their day of KIDtivities. From 11am to 6pm, look for everything from fitness classes and puppet shows, to free skating and cooking classes.
How much: Free, but reservations are strongly recommended. For more information, call Lakeside at 718-462-0010.

Kids Create
When: Wednesday, September 16, 4:15-5pm
Where: Park Slope Library, 431 6th Avenue at 9th Street
What: When the kids return home from school, head over to our local branch for crafts, stories, and other fun activities. Note that the program is geared toward children six and up, but younger kids are welcome with an adult.
How much: Free.
