South Slope Weekday Events Spotlight: November 3-6

Don’t wait until this weekend for a little neighborhood fun! With everything from an open mic comedy night to Election Day fun in Prospect Park, the Slope is definitely the place to be through Thursday. Here are some of our favorite events from around the area:

Dirty Hoe Monday Open Mic Night
When: Monday, November 3, 6:30pm
Where: Freddy’s, 627 5th Avenue, between 17th and 18th Streets
What: Looking for a fantastic spot to test out your new material. Make your way to Freddy’s for their weekly open mic comedy night. Register early by emailing dirtyhoecomedy@gmail.com. Walk-ins are also welcome on a first come, first served basis. Signup begins at 6pm, and the first comic hits the stage at 6:30pm.
How much: No cover, but comics must purchase at least one item from the bar for a 7-minute set.

Election Day In Prospect Park
When: Tuesday, November 4
Where: Prospect Park
What: Kids have the day off of school Tuesday? From nature events at the Audubon Center to potato sack races at Lefferts House, Prospect Park ready to entertain the family after the grownups rock the vote.
How much: Nature programs: free, Lefferts House: $3 suggested donation, and carousel: $2 per ride.

Kings Bay Y Rock With Adam
When: Wednesday, November 5, 10:30am
Where: Park Slope Library, 431 6th Avenue at 9th Street
What: Are you ready to rock? Neighborhood kids are definitely in for a treat as guitarist Adam Blotner plays some of his favorite tunes.
How much: Free, but tickets are required for entry (one per family), so be sure to arrive early to score your ticket.

75 Dollar Bill
When: Wednesday, November 6, 8pm
Where: Barbes, 376 9th Street and 6th Avenue
What: What do you get when you mix homemade percussion instruments and an electric guitar? Rick Brown and Che Chen’s idiosyncratic take on Mauritanian music, which Barbes says is both beautiful and hypnotic.
How much: $10 strongly suggested donation.

Shape Up NYC: Dance Fitness
When: Thursday, November 6, 11am
Where: Audubon Center, Prospect Park
What: Shake your groove thing at the Audubon Center on Thursday and get into shape. This new total-body workout class “uses easy-to-follow dance steps to increase cardiovascular fitness and tone the body.”
How much: Free.
