South Slope Weekday Events Spotlight: March 2-4

Don’t wait until this weekend for a little neighborhood fun! With everything from open mic nights and documentary screenings, to meditation and comedy, South Slope is definitely the place to be through Wednesday. Here are some of our favorite events from around the area:

Ed Sullivan on Acid
When: Monday, March 2, 9pm
Where: Freddy’s, 627 5th Avenue, between 17th and 18th Streets
What: Need a laugh to make it through this eternal winter? Get thee to Freddy’s for “Brooklyn’s longest running comedy stand up,” hosted by VH1′s Pat O’Shea.
How much: No Cover.

Toddler Tuesday
When: Every Tuesday, 9:30am-12pm
Where: Prospect Park, LeFrak Center at Lakeside
What: It’s all about the ice rink in Prospect Park, where Toddler Tuesdays are still going strong every week at Lakeside. Kids ages 2-5 (and their caregivers) will have a blast with instructor-led play and music activities, healthy snacks, and open skate time with skate rentals, helmets, and pad packs included. Ice skating grippers are available on a first-come, first-served basis for caregivers not comfortable on the ice.
How much: $15 per child, free admission for accompanying adult ($6 adult skate rental available).

The Art Of Living Meditation Workshop
When: Tuesday, March 3, 6-8pm
Where: Park Slope Library, 431 6th Avenue
What: Stress and life in the big city often go hand in hand, but the Park Slope Library is at the ready with a meditation workshop, led by volunteer organization The Art of Living. Note that this class is for adults only. No reservation is required.
How much: Free.

Open Mic Night
When: Tuesday, March 3, 8:30pm
Where: Supercollider, 609 4th Avenue, between 17th and 18th Streets
What: Show off your stuff at Supercollider’s open mic night. Signup starts at 8pm, and each performer can sing up to three songs or have 15 minutes of stage time.
How much: Free

Rock With Adam
When: Wednesday, March 4, 10:30am
Where: Park Slope Library, 431 6th Avenue at 9th Street
What: Are you ready to rock? Neighborhood kids are definitely in for a treat as guitarist Adam Blotner plays some of his favorite tunes.
How much: Free, but tickets are required for entry (one per family), so be sure to arrive early to score your ticket.

Shape Up NYC: Glutes In Gear
When: Wednesday, March 4, 6-7pm
Where: Audubon Center, Prospect Park
What: Looking for a belly-busting, booty shaping workout? This two-part class focuses on high-endurance cardio and mat work to build your core, and flatten and tighten your abs and glutes. No registration is required, but be sure to bring your own mat.
How much: Free.

Ritmos Negros Del Peru
When: Wednesday, March 4, 7pm
Where: Barbes, 376 9th Street near 6th Avenue
What: Explore contemporary Afro-peruvian music with a special screening of the documentary Ritmos Negros Del Peru at Barbes on Wednesday. The film is a “reflection on the preservation of traditional practices, the creation of contemporary musical styles, and how music helps define identity.” Afterward stick around for a Q&A and percussion workshop with director Hugo Massa and Afro Peruvian musician and researcher Angela Chichi Glass.
How much: $10 (strongly) suggested donation.
