South Slope Weekday Events Spotlight: March 16-18
Don’t wait until this weekend for a little neighborhood fun! With everything from comedy and blues, to toddler time and Irish folk, South Slope is definitely the place to be through Wednesday. Here are some of our favorite events from around the area:
Quarter Life Crisis Comedy Open Mic
When: Monday, March 16, 7pm
Where: Supercollider, 609 4th Avenue between 17th and 18th Streets
What: Looking for laughs, or need a spot to test out your material? Signup for Supercollider’s open mic comedy night starts at 7pm on Monday. There’s no cover, but you must be over 21 to enter.
How much: Free.
Toddler Tuesday
When: Every Tuesday, 9:30am-12pm
Where: Prospect Park, LeFrak Center at Lakeside
What: Toddler Tuesdays are still going strong every week at Lakeside. Kids ages 2-5 (and their caregivers) will have a blast with instructor-led play and music activities, healthy snacks, and open skate time with skate rentals, helmets, and pad packs included. Ice skating grippers are available on a first-come, first-served basis for caregivers not comfortable on the ice.
How much: $15 per child, free admission for accompanying adult ($6 adult skate rental available).
Blues On Tuesday
When: Tuesday, March 17, 10pm
Where: Freddy’s, 627 5th Avenue, between 17th and 18th Streets
What: Local band Fife and Drom (shown above) hosts an incredible night of classic blues at Freddy’s on Tuesday night.
How much: Free.
Rock With Adam
When: Wednesday, March 18, 10:30am
Where: Park Slope Library, 431 6th Avenue at 9th Street
What: Are you ready to rock? Neighborhood kids are definitely in for a treat as guitarist Adam Blotner plays some of his favorite tunes.
How much: Free, but tickets are required for entry (one per family), so be sure to arrive early to score your ticket.
Toddler Time
When: Wednesday, March 18, 11:30am
Where: Park Slope Library, 431 6th Avenue at 9th Street
What: After Rock With Adam wraps up, tots ages 18-36 months are invited to explore toys, watch finger plays, and listen to stories and songs at Toddler Time.
How much: Free, but tickets are required. Arrive by 11am to secure your spot.
Shape Up NYC: Glutes In Gear
When: Wednesday, March 18, 6-7pm
Where: Audubon Center, Prospect Park
What: Looking for a belly-busting, booty shaping workout? This two-part class focuses on high-endurance cardio and mat work to build your core, and flatten and tighten your abs and glutes. No registration is required, but be sure to bring your own mat.
How much: Free.
The Henry Girls
When: Wednesday, March 18, 8pm
Where: Barbes, 376 9th Street and 6th Avenue
What: What do you get when you mix traditional Irish folk and Americana? The Henry Girls! According to the BBC, these three sisters from Donegal have “terrific voices and great harmonies,” so be sure to make your way to Barbes on Wednesday night.
How much: $10 strongly suggested donation.
