South Slope Weekday Events Spotlight: June 8-10

Don’t wait until the weekend for a little neighborhood fun! With everything from comedy and crafts, to “booze soaked standards” and kiddie rock, South Slope is definitely the place to be through Wednesday. Below are some of our favorite events from around the area.

Quarter Life Crisis Comedy Open Mic
When: Monday, June 8, 7pm
Where: Supercollider, 609 4th Avenue between 17th and 18th Streets
What: Looking for laughs, or need a spot to test out your material? Signup for Supercollider’s open mic comedy night starts at 7pm on Monday. There’s no cover, but you must be over 21 to enter.
How much: Free.

Here Today, Heirs Tomorrow
When: Tuesday, June 9, 6-7pm
Where: Park Slope Library, 431 6th Avenue at 9th Street
What: Financial planner and wealth advisor, Mina Black, will stop by the Park Slope Library on Tuesday to discuss the benefits of living wills, wills, trusts, and powers of attorney. After the presentation, be sure to stick around for a question and answer session.
How much: Free.

Gato Loco
When: Tuesday, June 9, 9:30pm
Where: Barbes, 376 9th Street at 6th Avenue
What: Transport back to a pre-war Cuban dance hall, as Gato Loco hits the Barbes stage on Tuesday night.
How much: $10 (strongly) suggested donation.

Rock With Adam
When: Wednesday, June 10, 10:30am
Where: Park Slope Library, 431 6th Avenue at 9th Street
What: Are you ready to rock? Neighborhood kids are definitely in for a treat as guitarist Adam Blotner plays some of his favorite tunes.
How much: Free, but tickets are required for entry (one per family), so be sure to arrive early to score your ticket.

Kids Create
When: Wednesday, June 10, 4:15-5pm
Where: Park Slope Library, 431 6th Avenue at 9th Street
What: The library is hopping on Wednesday. When the kids return home from school, head over to our local branch for crafts, stories, and other fun activities. Note that the program is geared toward children six and up, but younger kids are welcome with an adult.
How much: Free.

Shape Up NYC: Glutes In Gear
When: Wednesday, June 10, 6-7pm
Where: Prospect Park, Audubon Center
What: Looking for a belly-busting, booty shaping workout? This two-part class focuses on high-endurance cardio and mat work to build your core, and flatten and tighten your abs and glutes. No registration is required, but be sure to bring your own mat.
How much: Free.

Old Rugged Sauce
When: Wednesday, June 10, 9pm
Where: Freddy’s, 627 5th Avenue, between 17th and 18th Streets
What: Get thee to Freddy’s on Wednesday for “booze soaked standards done saloon style.” Featuring Paul Sosnowski on vocals and guitar, Robbie “Seahag” Mangano on guitar, and Dave Dreiwitz on bass.
How much: Free.
