South Slope Weekday Events Spotlight: June 29-July 2

Don’t wait until the weekend for a little neighborhood fun! With everything from zumba to comedy to Shakespeare, folks in the Slope won’t have to go far for summertime entertainment. Below are some of our favorite events from around the area.

Zumba
When: Monday, June 29, 5pm
Where: Park Slope Library, 431 6th Avenue at 9th Street
What: Kick off a new fitness regimen at the Park Slope Library every Monday, as the branch hosts a free Zumba class for the community.
How much: Free.

As You Like It In Prospect Park
When: Tuesday, June 23 – Wednesday, June 24, 7pm
Where: Grand Army Plaza
What: New York Classical Theatre’s The Taming of the Shrew kicks off this Tuesday in Prospect Park. No tickets or reservations are required, but after meeting at Grand Army Plaza, the production will move through the park, so be sure to arrive by 7pm.
How much: Free.

Chi-Chi Glass
When: Tuesday, June 30, 7pm
Where: Barbés, 376 9th Street at 6th Avenue
What: Chi-Chi Glass, pianist, signer and cajonera, performs music that is reflective of her Peruvian roots; exuberant and rhythmically joyful. Chi-Chi’s music includes Afro-Peruvian landós, zamacuecas, festejos and original compositions in Spanish and English.
How much: $10 (strongly) suggested donation.

JANET Comedy Improv and Karaoke
When: Wednesday, June 1, 7pm
Where: Freddy’s Bar, 627 5th Avenue, between 17th and 18th streets
What: Come have a silly time with JANET and the finest improvisers available. Players of all levels are welcome. And after you get your improv fix, stay for some karaoke.
How much: Free.

Fresh Air Yoga
When: Thursday, July 2, 7pm
Where: Prospect Park, Long Meadow
What: Get your yoga on in the Park with a free open-level outdoor class every Thursday night. This week the class is taught by Rachel Page from Prana Power Yoga.
How much: Free.
