South Slope Weekday Events Spotlight: June 22-24

Don’t wait until the weekend for a little neighborhood fun! With everything from zumba and comedy, to Shakespeare and crafts, folks in the Slope won’t have to go far for summertime entertainment. Below are some of our favorite events from around the area.

Zumba
When: Monday, June 22, 5pm
Where: Park Slope Library, 431 6th Avenue at 9th Street
What: Kick off a new fitness regimen at the Park Slope Library every Monday, as the branch hosts a free Zumba class for the community.
How much: Free.

Quarter Life Crisis Comedy Open Mic
When: Monday, June 22, 7pm
Where: Supercollider, 609 4th Avenue between 17th and 18th Streets
What: Looking for laughs, or need a spot to test out your material? Signup for Supercollider’s open mic comedy night starts at 7pm on Monday. There’s no cover, but you must be over 21 to enter.
How much: Free.

As You Like It In Prospect Park
When: Tuesday, June 23 – Wednesday, June 24, 7pm
Where: Grand Army Plaza
What: New York Classical Theatre’s The Taming of the Shrew kicks off this Tuesday in Prospect Park. No tickets or reservations are required, but after meeting at Grand Army Plaza, the production will move through the park, so be sure to arrive by 7pm.
How much: Free.

Kids Create
When: Wednesday, June 24, 4:15-5pm
Where: Park Slope Library, 431 6th Avenue at 9th Street
What: When the kids return home from school, head over to our local branch for crafts, stories, and other fun activities. Note that the program is geared toward children six and up, but younger kids are welcome with an adult.
How much: Free.

Shape Up NYC: Glutes In Gear
When: Wednesday, June 24, 6-7pm
Where: Prospect Park, Audubon Center
What: Looking for a belly-busting, booty shaping workout? This two-part class focuses on high-endurance cardio and mat work to build your core, and flatten and tighten your abs and glutes. No registration is required, but be sure to bring your own mat.
How much: Free.

The Other Side Of Europe
When: Wednesday, June 24, 8:30pm
Where: Freddy’s, 627 5th Avenue, between 17th and 18th Streets
What: Get thee to Freddy’s on Wednesday, where “musicians from Brooklyn and the Balkans join forces to make the most alive music imaginable.” This week, look for Lauren Brody’s Accordion Bytes at 8:30pm, Megan Gould and Mavrothi Kontanis at 9:30pm, and Rhyta Musik at 10:45pm.
How much: Free.
