South Slope Weekday Events Spotlight: June 1 – 3
Don’t wait until the weekend for a little neighborhood fun! With everything from ragtime and workouts, to special education workshops and Chaka Khan, South Slope is definitely the place to be through Wednesday. Below are some of our favorite events from around the area.
For even more things to do around Brooklyn, and to add your own upcoming event (some of which we’ll feature in this roundup in the future!), check out our calendar.
The Brain Cloud

Where: Barbes, 376 9th Street near 6th Avenue
What: Make your way to Barbes on Monday night and let Brain Cloud serenade you with their Bob Wills inspired “New Orleans-meets-Texas, strings-meet-horns, jazz-meets-country sound.” It’s great stuff.

Shape Up NYC: Glutes In Gear
When: Wednesday, June 3, 6-7pm
Where: Prospect Park, Audubon Center

Navigating The Legal World Of Special Education: From IEPs To Impartial Hearings
When: Wednesday, June 3, 6:30-7:30pm
Where: Park Slope Library, 431 6th Avenue at 9th Street
What: Entering the confusing and acronym-filled world of special education is an incredibly stressful time for neighborhood families, but it’s important to understand your child’s legal special education rights as you dive head first into the process. Join Scott Cohen of the Law Office of Scott M. Cohen PLLC at the Park Slope Library on Wednesday for a discussion on IEP meetings, impartial hearings, and funding for private special needs programs. Also be sure to stick around for a question and answer period after the presentation.
How much: Free.
Celebrate Brooklyn
When: Wednesday, June 3, 8-11pm
Where: Prospect Park Bandshell, 9th Street and Prospect Park West
What: The first week of June is forecast to be a washout, but it looks like Mother Nature is giving us a bit of a reprieve on Wednesday, when the Queen of Funk, Chaka Khan, is scheduled to rock the Prospect Park Bandshell. Celebrate Brooklyn is starting their 37th season off with a bang – don’t miss it!
