South Slope Weekday Events Spotlight: July 7-9


Don’t wait until this weekend for a little neighborhood fun! With everything from the New York Philharmonic and fireworks, to jazz and karaoke, South Slope is definitely the place to be through Wednesday.

Shape Up NYC: Couch To 5k
When: Monday, July 7, 7pm
Where: Meets in Prospect Park on the porch of Lefferts Historic House
What: Doesn’t our gorgeous Monday just make you want to lace up those sneakers, and take your fitness dreams to the next level in Prospect Park? This weekly jog combines group running, walking, and conditioning exercises to get you in shape for long distance running.
How much: Free.

Ryan Keberle & Catharsis
When: Tuesday, July 8, 7pm
Where: Barbes, 376 9th Street at 6th Avenue
What: Ryan Keberle and his “piano-less” quartet fill Barbes with their bluesy latin-jazz on Tuesday. Look for Mike Rodriguez on trumpet, Jorge Roeder on bass and Eric Doob on drums.
How much: $10 suggested donation.

New York Philharmonic And Fireworks
When: Wednesday, July 9, 7:30pm
Where: Long Meadow Ballfields, Prospect Park
What: If you missed out on 4th of July fireworks, head to Prospect Park this Wednesday for the annual New York Philharmonic concert. The show runs about 1.5 hours, and concludes with an impressive pyrotechnic display. Concession will be available. For more information, visit the New York Philharmonic website.

Humans Against Music
When: Wednesday, July 9, 9pm-12:30am
Where: Freddy’s, 627 5th Avenue, between 17th and 18th Streets
What: Ready to show your musical prowess? Humans Against Music is firing up the karaoke microphones at Freddy’s on Wednesday. Come out and listen to some local talent, or take the stage yourself.
How much: Free.
