South Slope Weekday Events Spotlight: December 9-11
Don’t wait until the weekend to get out of the house! Here’s a few of the events that are taking place in our area through Wednesday:
Bridging Gowanus Community Meeting
When: Monday, December 9, 6:30pm
Where: PS 372, 512 Carroll Street, between 3rd and 4th Avenues
What: Gowanus residents will join community leaders, business owners, and artists on Monday night to discuss their visions for the neighborhood’s future. Monday’s meeting is the first in a series that will ultimately result in a “community supported blueprint, scheduled to be released to the de Blasio administration in Summer 2014, for an environmentally safe, vibrant, and sustainable Gowanus.”

72nd Precinct Community Council Meeting
When: Tuesday, December 11, 7:30pm
Where: 72nd Precinct, 830 4th Avenue at 29th Street
What: Get to know the members of our 72nd Precinct, and express any concerns you might have about neighborhood safety at the upcoming community council meeting.
How much: Free!
CAMBA Holiday Tree Lighting
When: Tuesday, December 11, 7pm to 8:30pm
Where: Park Slope Armory, 8th Avenue, between 14th and 15th Streets
What: CAMBA, a non-profit which helps to improve the lives of homeless women suffering with both mental health and addiction at the Park Slope Women’s Shelter, invites neighbors to share in the spirt of the season with a tree lighting, music and refreshments. Look for cookies, hot chocolate, and a visit from Frosty the Park Slope Parents Snowman.

Having A Whiskey Coke With You
When: Tuesday, December 10, 9pm
Where: Freddy’s, 627 5th Avenue, between 17th and 18th Streets
What: Come out to Freddy’s on Tuesday night for “a reading and performance series featuring a community of New York’s finest poets, writers, musicians, performers and artists.” In addition to the scheduled performers, there’s also an open mic. Those interested in reading can sign up at Freddy’s the night of the event.

Very Mary Cosby Sweater Party
When: Wednesday, December 11
Where: Mary’s Bar, 708 5th Avenue at 22nd Street
What: Nobody could rock an ugly 80s sweater like Heathcliff Huxtable, so Mary’s Bar is honoring the venerable doctor with their Very Mary Cosby Sweater Party. Every Wednesday in December, rock your best Cosby-esque sweater at Mary’s, and you’ll receive a free Fireball shot.
