South Slope Weekday Events Spotlight: December 8-11

Don’t wait until this weekend for a little neighborhood fun! With everything from movies and an open mic night, to live music and karaoke, South Slope is definitely the place to be through Thursday. Here are some of our favorite events from around the area:

Monday Movie Night At Sea Witch
When: Monday, December 8, 9pm
Where: Sea Witch, 703 5th Avenue, between 21st and 22nd Streets
What: Cozy up with a clam roll and a movie at Sea Witch. This week, take a trip back to 19th century Canton with the martial arts film Once Upon a Time in China.
How much: Free.

Quarter Life Crisis Comedy Open Mic
When: Monday, December 8, 7pm
Where: Supercollider, 609 4th Avenue between 17th and 18th Streets
What: Take a break from the holiday season with some open mic comedy laughs at Supercollider. If you’d like to test out your material, signup starts at 7pm.
How much: Free.

Karina Colis
When: Tuesday, December 9, 7pm
Where: Barbes, 376 9th Street and 6th Avenue
What: Mexican drummer, percussionist, and vocalist Karina Colis will perform her own arrangements of traditional songs from Mexico, Colombia, and Venezuela, as well as some of her original compositions.
How much: Free.

Kings Bay Y Rock With Adam
When: Wednesday, December 10, 10:30am
Where: Park Slope Library, 431 6th Avenue at 9th Street
What: Are you ready to rock? Neighborhood kids are definitely in for a treat as guitarist Adam Blotner plays some of his favorite tunes. Recommended for children ages 0-5.
How much: Free, but tickets are required for entry (one per family), so be sure to arrive early to score your ticket.

Humans Against Music Karaoke
When: Wednesday, December 10, 9pm-12:30am
Where: Freddy’s, 627 5th Avenue, between 17th and 18th Streets
What: Sing your heart out and possibly walk away with some snazzy prizes at Freddy’s monthly karaoke night.
How much: Free.

Shape Up NYC: Dance Fitness
When: Thursday, December 11, 11am
Where: Audubon Center, Prospect Park
What: Shake your groove thing at the Audubon Center on Thursday and get into shape. This new total-body workout class “uses easy-to-follow dance steps to increase cardiovascular fitness and tone the body.”
How much: Free.

From Nests to Nets: A Conversation with Artist & Anthropologist Rebecca Jewell
When: Thursday, December 11, 6-8pm
Where: Audubon Center, Prospect Park
What: Enjoy refreshments and light hors d’oeuvres as Jennifer Newell of the American Museum of Natural History moderates a conversation with artist Rebecca Jewell on her newest exhibit, From Nests to Nets. Admission is free, but registration is required, so be sure to reserve your spot here.
