South Slope Is Home to Many New New Yorkers

When someone moves to New York City from another state, it looks like most of them find a place to live in Manhattan, according to census survey data from 2007-2011 that was mapped by WNYC. But when they move to Brooklyn, quite a few end up in South Slope.

They estimate that 9% of the population between 6th and 8th Avenues and from 13th Street to the Prospect Expressway are residents who moved here from another state, the largest percentage in our area. As for neighbors who have moved here from another country, the biggest draw appears to be 3rd to 6th Avenues, between 20th and 24th Streets.

Any theories on what’s attracting new people from outside of NYC to these areas?
