South Slope Events Spotlight: September 12-15

Whether you’re in the mood for fine art or raccoons desperately seeking pizza, South Slope has a little something for everyone this weekend.

Paesaggio Opening Reception
When: Thursday, September 12, 6pm to 9pm
Where: 440 Gallery, 440 6th Avenue, between 9th and 10th Street.
What: Give summer a proper send-off with 440 Gallery’s newest exhibition, Paesaggio, which features a series of landscape paintings by husband and wife team Susan Greenstein and Phil DeSantis. The exhibition runs through October 20.
How much: Free!

Pilates In Prospect Park
When: Friday, September 13, 12pm to 1pm
Where: Prospect Park’s Audubon Center
What: Friday is supposed to be a beautiful 75 degree day (so long, muggy heat), so grab your mat and head over to Prospect Park for free pilates with Shape Up NYC. The class is open to adults and seniors and no registration is required.
How much: Free!

Beer Tasting At The Ploughman
When: Saturday, September 14, 4pm to 7pm
Where: 438 7th Avenue, between 14th and 15th Street
What: Looking to broaden your beer horizons? The Ploughman brings back their free beer tastings this weekend and offers up a nice German sampling: Bitberger (a German pilsner), Benedictinerweiss (Wheat) and Licher Oktoberfest.

Secret Pizza Party At Powerhouse On 8th
When: Sunday, September 15, 11:30pm to 12pm
Where: 1111 8th Avenue, between 11th and 12th Street
What: We’ve had our fair share of raccoons in the Slope, but we had no idea that the furry critters were such big fans of pizza. Join authors Adam Rubin and Daniel Salmieri as they read Secret Pizza Party for Powerhouse on 8th’s Sunday Story Time. Admission is free, but registration is encouraged.
