South Slope Events Spotlight: April 25 – April 28

Whether you’re in the mood for a bit of fairy rock, or a Run for Hope, South Slope has you covered this weekend.

Thursday, April 25

Tonight at Bar 4 (444 7th Ave) is the Queer Bait Fairy Rock Show, “an all-inclusive LGBTQ party for the butch, the fem and the asexual.” Featured performances include Older Brother at 9pm, Victory Grin at 10pm, Madame Vivien V, and DJ Uriel from 11pm to 2am. No cover, but consider tipping your friendly performers. It’s good karma.

Friday, April 26

We’re in love with Villa Delirium, performing at Barbes (376 9th Street) this Friday at 7pm. The group “combines eerie traditional folk songs of Germany, Ireland and the Balkans with murder ballads of the American South and heir own startling compositions.” $10 (very strongly) suggested donation. Check out the YouTube video below:

Saturday, April 27

Dreamgirls opens at The Gallery Players (199 14th Street) Saturday night, starring Charnette Batey, Tunisia Renee, Aisha Curtis, and Inuka Ivaska. Performances take place Thursday, Friday and Saturday at 8PM with matinees on Saturday at 2PM and Sunday at 3PM. Tickets, $18 for adults, $14 for seniors and children 12 and under, can be purchased online, or by calling Ovationtix at 212-352-3101 (phone hours 9AM-9PM weekdays, 10AM-6PM weekends).

Sunday, April 28

The first annual Run for Hope, a 3.1K walk/run around Prospect Park will take place this Sunday at 9am. Registration is $27 or $35 (if you want a t-shirt…you know you want a t-shirt). All proceeds benefit the Hope Reichbach Memorial Fund, dedicated to a rising star in the Brooklyn political community who passed away at the age of 22.
