Free Stuff To Do In The Neighborhood On Mother’s Day Weekend
Showing mom you care doesn’t have to cost a lot of money. This Mother’s Day weekend, we’ve rounded up some exciting outings for moms, dads, and kids alike that don’t cost a penny — from a free jazz concert by the sea, to moms-only roller coaster passes, to a neighborhood food drive.

Chess Club
When: Friday, May 8, 3:30pm-5pm
Where: New Utrecht Library, 1743 86th Street
What: A great way for big and little kids alike to learn how to play chess or sharpen their skills with instructor Todd Seidman.

Jazz By The Sea
When: May 8, 4 – 6pm
Where: The New York Aquarium, 602 Surf Avenue, Coney Island
What: Come hear the William Spaulding Jazz Quintet free at the New York aquarium. The performance, featuring Brooklyn’s own William Spaulding, is part of the 16th annual Central Brooklyn Jazz Festival. Running from April 17 – May 17, the festival celebrates the borough’s contributions to the African influenced art form, jazz.

Curious George Day At New Utrecht Public Libray
When: Saturday, May 9, 1:30 – 2pm, 3 – 4pm
Where: New Utrecht Library, 1743 86th Street
What: There will be two shifts in this all-day kids event. First younger kids can hear some Curious George books read, sing songs, and learn movement activities to promote fitness and healthy habits. That will be followed by bookmark making workshop inspired by the lovable monkey!

Feed Our Kids with City Harvest
When: Sunday, May 10, all day
Where: Apple Bank, 6701 18th Avenue, 1973 86th Street
What: Spend Mother’s Day giving back to those in need. Last year, Feed Our Kids collected 250,000 pounds of food — enough to feed thousands of families in New York for an entire summer. This year — starting on Mother’s Day — they are doing it again. Food can be dropped off at any FDNY or NYPD station and any Apple Bank location.

Live Reggae & Rasta Pasta at Footprints Cafe
When: Saturday, May 9, 9pm-12pm
Where: Footprints Cafe, 1521 Surf Avenue, Coney Island
What: Nothing says warm weather more than Caribbean soul food and reggae music! This lively bar and restaurant boasts a live band every Saturday night. Plus, jerk chicken, coconut shrimp, their famous “Rasta Pasta,” and cocktails with some very, very naughty names.
How much: Free entry! Food in the $15 range.
Russians Never Sleep Party at Lutzina
When: Friday, May 8, 10pm
Where: Lutzina Bar & Lounge, 2031 Bath Avenue
What: Dance the night away at one of Bensonhurst’s sole nightlife establishments. This place has a little of everything. In addition to a pulsating pop music and a disco lights, the night club and lounge offers luxurious seating, and a wide array of food, drink, and hookah options.

Moms Ride Free On Mother’s Day
When: Sunday, May 10th, 12 – 3pm
Where: Adventurer’s Park, 1824 Shore Parkway
What: Formerly known as Nelly Bly Park, this mini amusement park is the perfect place take the family on a sunny Mother’s Day. This Sunday, give mom the greatest gift of all: endless free rides on those nausea-inducing roller coasters!
