Smorgasburg Packs Up In Prospect Park And Cabs It Down To Industry City In Mid-October
Instead of hibernating during the cold weather, Smorgasburg is moving inside for five months.
But it’s not just any inside. Smorgasburg — along with Brooklyn Flea — will be trekking down the BQE to hold court at Industry City in Sunset Park.
Smorgasburg and The Brooklyn Flea will be open on Saturdays and Sundays from October 17, 2015 to March 27, 2016. Since the final day in Prospect Park is Sunday, October 11, you won’t miss a weekend.
If you haven’t been down to Industry City — or if it’s been awhile — there has been a lot happening. Located at 220 36th Street (between 2nd and 3rd Avenues), the complex on the waterfront (if you brave Costco next door, you know where it is) is massive, and is in the midst of a $1 billion redevelopment.
The complex is a 16-building, 6-million square foot complex that includes work spaces for fashion designers, food, photography, manufacturing, media, and technology companies.
“We are really excited to become part of the creative community that is already blossoming at Industry City,” said Jonathan Butler, co-founder of Brooklyn Flea and Smorgasburg with Eric Demby. “We think the history, the location, and the physical space will make this our best winter market yet.”
“Brooklyn Flea and Smorgasburg have long provided a platform for Brooklyn’s makers,” said Andrew Kimball, CEO of Industry City. “These events are the perfect complement to the community of innovators growing here at Industry City and will serve to further open our doors to the surrounding community and beyond.”
For those wondering about transportation, the D,N, and R lines stop at the 36th Street station, which is one (long) block away.
