Sixty Firefighters Fought Flames At 1510 Cortelyou Road Tuesday Night
Sixty firefighters from 12 units fought a small fire that broke out on the third floor of 1510 Cortelyou Road (between E. 16th Street and Marlborough Road) around 6:44pm Tuesday evening, the FDNY and neighbors told us.
The fire was brought under control by 7:04pm, a FDNY spokesman said. The cause of the fire has not yet been determined, and it’s still under investigation. Fortunately, there were no injuries, according to the FDNY.
The fire happened in the apartments just above Cafe Tibet and Asian Grocery at 1510 Cortelyou Road. When we spoke to a worker at Asian Grocery, she said that while Cafe Tibet closed last night (the restaurant itself wasn’t damaged), it will reopen today.
Numerous community members witnessed the activity last night, and neighbor Valeriya Kostinenko described the event to us.
“The top floor of the apartment over the grocery store next to Dunkin’ had smoke coming out,” she wrote. “A firefighter went up on the roof another broke open the windows and entered the apartment. They started getting hoses ready from a hydrant on Marlborough but after 15 minutes started turning them off and disconnecting them.”
Neighbor Stephanie Dassinger took a video of some of the incident, which you can see here.
We have yet to hear about the extent of the damage on the third floor of the building and whether or not their were tenants living there. If you know anything more about the fire, you can comment below or email us at editor@ditmasparkcorner.com.
