Sink Your Talons Into Raptor Fest In Prospect Park On Sunday

This Sunday, October 5, get a free, up-close look at hawks, falcons, owls, and other birds of prey at Raptor Fest in Prospect Park.

The Prospect Park Alliance and Urban Park Rangers present the annual event, as Talons! A Bird of Prey Experience will be on hand at the Peninsula from 12-3pm with lots of interesting info and yes, awesome birds. The flight demonstrations are a can’t-miss event for kids and adults alike who are curious about these fascinating creatures.

Plus, in advance of the event, on Thursday at 11am the Urban Park Rangers and wildlife rehabilitator Bobby Horvath will release a rehabilitated Red Tailed Hawk into the wild of the park. There is currently a pair Red Tailed Hawks who call Prospect Park home — Alice and Ralph, who have a nest near the ballfields.

If you’re looking for even more hawtastic events — October is, after all Hawk Month — there’s an early morning bird watch with a focus on hawks on Sunday, October 5. Meet up with the Brooklyn Bird Club at the Audubon Center at 8am, and then keep you eyes on the skies.
