Now is the time to sign up for a farm share so you can enjoy all of the wonderful produce grown in our region this summer. Here’s information on just two of the CSA’s (Community Supported Agriculture) in our area.

Flatbush Farm Share CSA
Sign-ups for the 2016 summer season of the Flatbush Farm Share CSA are still being accepted — the deposit deadline to secure a spot is this Friday, April 29.

Click here to see the details on share offerings and how to become a member.

Flatbush Farm Share charges on a sliding scale based on income and household size. EBT payments are also accepted and weekly payment plans can be arranged.

What’s available: Two sizes of a weekly vegetable share. You can also add shares of fruit, eggs and honey. Vegetables come from The Farm at Miller’s Crossing, and fruit comes from Hepworth Farms.

When: The summer season starts June 1st, and runs for 22 weeks until the end of October. Pick-up days are Wednesdays from 6 to 8pm.

Where: Pick-up location is still to be determined, but will definitely be in the Flatbush/Ditmas area, close to the Q line.

Local Roots CSA
Locally grown produce comes straight from the farm to Ditmas Park through the Local Roots CSA — a network of 19 Community Supported Agriculture markets which feeds over 675 households.

Orders are due by May 20th. The Summer CSA is followed by a fall and winter season.

Local Roots says that it welcomes partnerships with small businesses, schools, and neighborhood development associations. Last year, they co-hosted apple and beer pairings with Cortelyou Craft Beer.

Local Roots is doing an Earth Day give back this year — with every order over $250, they’ll donate $10 to The Youth Farm, which provides farm education for young people and adults in Prospect-Lefferts Gardens.

Also — deepen your connection with local food, farmers, and mindful agriculture at Local Roots’ mini food conference and social gathering, The Good Festival, held on May 15th.

What’s Available: Organic veggies, pasture eggs, handmade breads, fresh picked fruits, Brooklyn made pasta and more.

When: 12-week summer season from June 7th to August 23rd. Ditmas Park pick-up is on Wednesdays.

Where: Pick up every Wednesday from 6 to 8pm at the Farm on Adderley. (Pick up locations throughout lower Manhattan and Brooklyn.)
