Sign Up Your Dynamic Duo For Mac Shack’s Annual Mac & Cheese Eating Contest

Competitive Eating 101 says that you should like what you’re shoving in your gut + who doesn’t like mac and cheese? = the second annual Mac & Cheese Eating Contest!

Planned for three weeks from today on Saturday, September 12, the contest is the brainchild of the folks over at our very own Mac Shack (901 Fulton Street, off of Washington Avenue), which was also recently nominated “Best Mac and Cheese in Brooklyn” by BrooklynFoodPorn.com.

“It’s baaaack!!!” exclaimed Team Mac Shack on their Facebook page this week, announcing the contest, which drew about a dozen contestants and an even larger crowd last year, when Joe Hennessy, a Brooklyn Tech HS football coach and director of campus events at Brooklyn College, took home the win.

This year, though, the rules are a little different, manager Samantha told us over the phone.

Instead of individual contestants, people will compete in teams of two, with each team member being responsible for finishing a half a pan of mac and cheese.

Also, all competitors must fill out a disclaimer taking responsibility for any consequences that may arise from plowing through pasta, cheese, and toppings or sauce in a short period of time. Incidentally, you also get to choose the flavor of your choice, from the following options: BBQ, Pesto, Buffalo, Jerk Chicken, or Plain. Whichever team finishes their two half-pans first, wins.

Anyone aged 8 and up are eligible to apply to compete. The winning team gets a prize, which has yet TBD, although last year’s winner got a catered tailgating party.

Do you think you can stomach that much mac and cheese? If so, what flavor would you choose?
