Shooting Near Habana Outpost Leaves Two Injured

Gunfire erupted last night at South Portland and Fulton Streets, leaving two injured and suspects still at large, said police, who told us the investigation is ongoing and “no arrests have been made at this time.”

The call of shots fired came in at 8:08pm during peak dinner/evening stroll hours — shots that were the result of “some kind of dispute between two groups,” according to an NYPD spokeswoman.

Cops said that a 17-year-old male was shot in the right hip while a 23-year-old woman was grazed in the shoulder. The boy was taken to Woodhull Medical Center and the woman to Methodist Hospital. Both are reported to be in stable condition.

On Twitter, witness Daniel Elder described the scene as “nutty” and said he initially thought the gunfire was firecrackers.

As first reported by Gothamist, the shooting occurred near the corner entrance of popular Fort Greene eatery Habana Outpost, which just reopened for the season two weeks ago, but did not take place in the actual restaurant, said police.

Still, the Fulton Area Business (FAB) Alliance “checked in with merchants along the corner to make sure they’re all okay (which they are),” said executive director Phillip Kellogg.
