See the Damage Sandy Has Already Done in Ditmas Park

Neighbors have been sending in pictures and news from around the area as we deal with considerable storm damage.  Neighbor Edwina sent two pictures of trees that have fallen on cars on Farragut Road east of Ocean Avenue. If you have photos or news, you can email us at ditmasparkcorner@gmail.com and we’ll put it up on the blog.

As conditions deteriorate rapidly, strong winds are whipping through the neighborhood. There’s nothing quite as scary as walking underneath the huge trees that line many of our streets. Many of the trees are creaking and swaying violently. Several have fallen already. Neighbors are advised to stay inside if possible.

Neighbor Michael sent in this next picture from East 9th between Cortelyou Road and Ditmas Avenue.

Patricia saw a tree down on Albemarle Road between East 21 Street and Flatbush Avenue.

Sarah spotted this next fallen tree limb on East 19th Street and Foster Avenue. The limb crushed two unoccupied cars. The Fire Department showed up a few minutes later to cordon it off.

The Q at Parkside blog is documenting fallen trees as well.

An update on the storm’s speed:

Again, if you have any pictures or updates from the storm, email us at ditmasparkcorner@gmail.com or leave a comment and we’ll post it to the blog. We’d like to keep as complete a record as possible of the damage caused by the storm. To make sure you get breaking news, you should follow us at @DPCornerBlog on Twitter and on Facebook in case the neighborhood loses electricity or internet connectivity.

We’re going to be updating the blog throughout the storm, so stay tuned and stay safe.
