The annual Prospect Park South Halloween Parade took Saturday night, and drew a crowd nearly double the size of last year’s event, according to event organizers.

Paradegoers decked out in costume gathered on Albemarle Road and Marlborough Road around 5pm before parading down Albemarle Road.

Chris Lindsay-Abaire and her husband David have lived in Ditmas Park for five years with their two sons. The couple hosted the parade this year, for the third year in a row, and activities started at their home on Albemarle Road with refreshments and baked goods.

“It’s a really nice event not just for Prospect Park South, but for other neighborhoods in the area as well,” said Lindsay-Abaire.

She praised the volunteers that helped shop, bake, and setup the pre-parade activities, and thanked the 70th Police Precinct for helping keep the parade safe.

The parade started out small nearly 10 years ago, when it was held on Buckingham Road, said Lindsay-Abaire. It has grown considerably since, with around 600 attendees last year, and pushing 1,000 this year.

“I think it’s above and beyond the best,” said Jason Moscowitz about the parade. Moscowitz has lived in Ditmas Park with his wife for the past four years. This was their first year attending the parade with their baby son, Harrison. The family sported some of the most original costumes, dressed as Run DMC.

Kevin and Christine McBride, who live on Stratford Road, attended the parade with their son Christopher. They are lifelong Brooklynites, and look forward to the parade every Halloween.

“It’s the neighborhood getting together, and people you don’t see all year come out,” said Kevin.
