Satisfy Your Sweet Tooth at Caramello

Some of the best gelato in (Brooklyn/New York/the United States/the world) can be found at 179 5th Avenue in Park Slope. Caramello is serving up locally sourced, delicious, and inventive gelato. Owner Nicoletta Grippo gets her seasonal ingredients from nearby farmers’ markets, among other places, and concocts her amazing creations in the cafe’s basement.

The flavors are as diverse as they are tasty. Sweet Corn comes captures the essence of an August cob. Strawberry draws out the distinct flavor of the berry without being overly sweet. Pumpkin, nice and nutmegy, tastes like a cold, ice cream version of a very good pumpkin soup. You’ll also find Not So Hot Chocolate, Olive Oil, Fig and White Chocolate, and Green Tea alongside more traditional flavors like Cookies and Cream, and Peanut Butter, and Chocolate. Flavors change on a daily basis, so you may not get the one you came for. But you will leave happy.

Choosing what you want won’t be easy with over 30 flavors. Luckily, they don’t skimp on free tastes, so you will be able to make an informed decision. A small gelato comes in at $4.50, so it ain’t cheap, but it’s a lot less expensive than flying to Italy.

They also offer a variety of non-frozen treats for the approaching fall and winter months, plus coffees and sandwiches.

Caramello is open Monday through Friday from 7am-11pm and Saturday from 10am-11pm.
