Sanders Campaign To Open Office In Flatbush

The battle for the Democratic Party presidential nomination has come to the streets of Flatbush.

Presidential candidate Bernie Sanders is opening an office tomorrow at 1300 Flatbush Avenue (and Foster Avenue), said Paul Sliker, a grassroots organizer with the campaign.

This is the Sanders campaign’s second office in Brooklyn, New York City’s most populous borough. Sanders recently opened an office in Gowanus.

The former Brooklynite’s campaign has been gaining momentum in New York City. Last week, over 18,000 residents turned out to hear Sanders speak in the South Bronx.

Sanders’ Flatbush office will be coordinating door-to-door canvassing throughout central and south Brooklyn in the lead-up to the April 19th New York State Democratic primary, Sliker said.

Flatbush has huge emotional and strategic significance for Sanders, Sliker noted. The candidate grew up here. The house where Sanders lived as a Brooklyn College student is only three blocks from the campaign office.

Central and South Brooklyn are key electoral targets, Sliker added. The Flatbush office will enable the Sanders campaign to coordinate get-out-the-vote operations and events in neighborhoods throughout the Ninth Congressional District, which stretches from Park Slope to Sheepshead Bay, he said.

Area residents interested in volunteering with the Sanders campaign will be able to obtain canvassing lists and campaign materials at the Flatbush office.

The office is hosting canvassing events starting tonight (Wednesday), Thursday and Friday from 6 to 8:30pm.
