Roosters Caribbean Tapas Now Open On 5th Avenue

Looks like the space at 651 5th Avenue, between 18th and 19th Streets, is a natural fit for those hoping to serve the neighborhood little bites, as another small plates place has set up shop there.

The space, formerly home to Sekt — which closed after less than a year — is now Roosters Caribbean Tapas, which opened last month. They’re serving up a menu meant for sharing, featuring some traditional-sounding dishes, from stew chicken to jerk pork to “calypso” catfish, with prices ranging from $7-12 for each plate.

It’s open Tuesday-Friday 5-10pm and Saturday-Sunday 3-10pm, and we spotted a Groupon for them that’s up right now — $12 for $20 worth of tapas, $24 for $40 worth for four or more people, or $14 for $24 worth for takeout. Note that it’s cash only.

We haven’t had a chance to stop in yet, but the photos on their Facebook page make it look pretty tasty — has anyone stopped in yet? What did you think?
