Rodneyse Bichotte To Run For State Assembly
42nd District Leader Rodneyse Bichotte announced this morning that she intends to make a bid for the New York State Assembly seat serving our area. The East Flatbush native has over two decades of experience in public service, and previously challenged incumbent Assemblymember Rhoda Jacobs‘ seat in 2012–telling us on the campaign trail, “I’ve organized the constituents and got them really motivated to be civically engaged… people in our district, they’re not encouraged… I’m trying to activate them.”
In the same interview, she gave Assemblymember Jacobs some praise, but noted that our local leadership is “mediocre,” that our district has been long-ignored, and that Jacobs wasn’t bringing in enough funds. We reached out to both Bichotte and Jacobs’ camps for an updated take on what could shape up to be quite the lively race.
“I believe strongly in the Democratic process, voter empowerment, and choice,” Assemblymember Jacobs tells us. “In keeping with the tenets of our democracy, I welcome the participation of all those who, in good faith, wish to represent the people of the 42nd Assembly District.
“I thank ALL of the voters who made their voices heard during the last Primary Election—both the 68.4% who supported my candidacy and the 31.6% who supported Ms. Bichotte, the opposing candidate, as well as the 95% of voters who supported me in the General Election. Your voices are the backbone of this District and continue to fuel and shape the work I do—both here in Brooklyn and in Albany—to address your concerns, bring vital resources to our communities, and defend important programs and services from budget cuts.”
We hope to update soon with input from Ms. Bichotte.
