Robert De Niro Film ‘The Intern’ Takes Over 7th Avenue Starting Today
Based on the no parking signs, the production of the film The Intern is going to be enormous — which is a match to its cast and crew. The movie, which was originally supposed to star Tina Fey and then Reese Witherspoon, is directed by Nancy Meyers (Father of the Bride, It’s Complicated) and features Robert De Niro and Anne Hathaway, and it will be filming along 7th Avenue for a few days over the next week.
In the movie, Hathaway will play a businesswoman who takes on De Niro as an intern as part of an outreach program for senior citizens. Misunderstandings and mild comedy will lead, presumably, to a touching and heartfelt resolution, as so many of Meyers’ films do.
Signs are up on 7th Ave from Park Place to Garfield, and along most of the side streets in that stretch as well, mostly heading up toward 8th Avenue. There are three different filming dates posted, some on different blocks: Tuesday, June 17; Monday, June 23; and Tuesday, June 24.
Cars need to be moved from blocks with these signs by 10pm the night before. If you find your car has been relocated, contact James at 646-351-1531.
And if you spot the Raging Bull himself, or catch any other interesting scenes from the filming, send us pics at editor@bklyner.com, and we’ll post them on the site.
