Southern Brooklyn’s sea kingdom has spoken!

Registration is now open for the 35th annual Coney Island Mermaid Parade, for marchers, floats, antique cars, photographers, and revelers who want to take off their clothes.

Get ready for colorful costumes to flood the boardwalk and beyond for this massive art and spectacle event, scheduled for Saturday, June 17, beginning at 1pm. The parade will start at West 21st Street and Surf Avenue, moving east to West 10th Street, and then south towards the boardwalk. Floats, cars, and marchers will eventually disband at Steeplechase Plaza.

This year’s Mermaid parade royalty includes rock icons Debbie Harry and Chris Stein of Blondie.

Founded in 1983, the Mermaid Parade was created with three goals: to bring mythology to life for local residents who live on streets named Mermaid and Neptune, to boost self-esteem in a district that is often disregarded as “entertainment,” and to let artistic New Yorkers find self-expression in public.

A celebration of ancient mythology and honky-tonk rituals of the seaside, the parade showcases over 3,000 creative individuals from all over the five boroughs and beyond, opening the summer with incredible art, entrepreneurial spirit, and community pride.

Pre-register here before Tuesday, June 13 at 11:59pm. In-person registration begins at 10am on Saturday, June 17 and is cash only.
