Raking Leaves? Bring Them To 6/15 Green

It’s that time of year when leaves start piling up on the sidewalk and in yards — if you’re looking for a way to unload all those bags, you can drop them off at 6/15 Green (corner of 6th Avenue and 15th Street) as a part of Project LeafDrop.

The annual event lets neighbors bring leaves to community gardens and other organizations, where they will be collected and turned into valuable compost. If you’ve got a tree shedding its leaves into your area, once you’ve raked and bagged them into paper or clear plastic bags (just leaves — no branches, twigs, or trash), consider dropping them off at our local garden.

Leaves will be accepted on Saturday, November 15, 22, 29, and December 6, between the hours of 11am and 1pm. Please note that bags should not be dropped outside of the gate, or the garden will receive a ticket.

Of course, this year many neighbors can also simply leave bags of leaves curbside for composting as part of the organic waste recycling pilot program. Though you can put some small amounts of leaf and yard waste in your brown bin, you’ll want to bundle or bag up (in paper lawn bags if possible) any large amounts and put that next to your bin on the day it goes out curbside.
